Gaon Physical sales report 2021

 Gaon released its annual sales report today. Note the report is always released at 50 weeks point every year.

Total sales

SKZ is at #5 in total sales of 2021 (all Kpop artists). This is a jump from #9 last year. 

They sold 2,665,405 albums in 2021 (an increase from 967,670 same time previous year)

Other in the top 5: BTS, NCT127, NCT Dream, Seventeen

Boy group market share:

SKZ market share is 5.8% (going from 2.9% last year)

BTS 15.8%, NCT127 8.9%, NCT Dream 8.5%, SVT 8.3%

Other trends noted in the article

Kpop physical albums increased by 30% in 2021, exports increased by 50% (data collected from custom services)

Lower reliance on Japan market. Japan share reduce by 12% (Japan is the traditional major export destination of Kpop, in 2018, Jp was accounted for 40% of export), increase in share from China & USA (8% and 2% respectively). Indonesia is the #4 destination after these 3 big markets

Increase in physical album sales across all markets, notable jump with Indonesia, UK, Germany, Netherlands

BTS still remains #1, with 15.8% share. However, this figure last year was 28.4%

11 artists sold >1M in total. 3 more than last year

10 albums sold more than 1M copies. An increase of 4 from 6 in last year (Noeasy is part of these top 10 albums).
