Melon music listening data, Billboard reflected… Korean music platform first

[Seoul = Newsis] Reporter Lee Jae-hoon = Kakao Entertainment (CEO Lee Jin-soo and Kim Seong-soo)'s music platform Melon's music appreciation data is reflected on the US Billboard chart for the first time among Korean music platforms.

Melon announced on the 7th that it would provide Melon's music listening data to the Billboard charts through a contract with Billboard's data management company Luminate Data Holdings.

The Billboard charts that reflect Melon's data include 'South Korea Songs', a regional chart in Korea, 'Billboard Global 200', a global chart that counts more than 200 countries including the US, and global charts excluding the US. Chart 'Billboard Global Excl. US' and three others. With all digital-based charts, Melon provides music streaming and download data.

Melon said, "Billboard, which is advancing to the global chart beyond national boundaries, went through a thorough data verification and review process for several months together with Melon, the No. 1 platform in Korea, to accurately reflect the Korean music market, which is the 7th largest in the world."

With the reflection of Melon's data, which has 5 million paid members, K-pop's position on the Billboard charts is expected to further strengthen. In fact, there are a lot of K-pop in the 'Global 200'.
